Pride in the brand

Did you know that Pride is a commemoration of the anniversary of 1969’s Stonewall Inn riots?  This is when LGBT New Yorkers stood up to insist they would no longer be arrested simply for being at one of the few places in Manhattan that would allow them to be themselves.

This sparked the movement that has become a global phenomenon.  Some claim in recent years that Pride has become a commercial cash cow but taking away the cynical angle, it is a true celebration of people being allowed to be themselves and bring their whole selves wherever they go... and it's really caught the imaginations of some global brands.

We are now well into Pride season and with London Pride taking place this weekend,  it's incredible to see just how many brands are keen to give huge support either through advertising or creating unique products and merchandise to mark the events.
We take a look at the brands globally that we feel have really taken their support to the next level this year...

DELIVEROO (US)

In the states, Deliveroo changed its name for Pride season to De-love-roo and they’ve launched a special menu to make the occassion too.  All the profits are going to LGBT+ homeless charity, Albert Kennedy Trust.

YO SUSHI (UK)

Yo Sushi has removed all the labels from its website, social media platforms and High Street Kensington restaurant front to show its support for Pride in London.
Of the back of research showing that the LGBTQ+ community feels over-labelled, the Japanese sushi restaurant has launched it’s ‘No Labels. Just Pride’ campaign.

ABSOLUT (UK)
As part of its efforts to support Stonewall, Absolut is installing NFC-enabled payment points on Exterion Media’s fleet of digital buses, at which supporters can donate to the charity with a tap of their phone.
Two buses, running on routes 14 and 19, have been wrapped in rainbow-flag colours, echoing the brand’s limited-edition bottles, which return for a second year and are exclusive to Tesco.

APPLE (US)
Apple’s pride-themed watchband for 2018
Incredible support for a movement that seems to gather more and more pace each year.  For those attending London Pride, we wish you an incredible weekend - it's going to be hot and remember there is an app this year that you can download to keep you up to date with the schedule!

This is the second time Apple has released a pride-themed watchband: In 2016, Apple gave some of its employees limited-edition pride watchbands, but later sold them to the public in June 2017, according to
